What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a strong, lasting, natural looking tooth replacement option. They are permanently secured into the jaw to replace missing or damaged teeth and unlike dentures, prevent shrinkage of the jaw bone and face, while restoring full chewing ability.

Dental implants are suitable for people of all ages, providing the growth of their jaw is complete. For some patients with advanced dental and gum disease, removal of teeth followed by replacement with dental implants can rid the body of dental disease while restoring full function and aesthetics. An adequate jaw bone is required to act as a secure base for the placement and integration of dental implants. If adequate jaw bone is not present, it can often be created, using bone grafting or augmentation procedures.

Dental Implants

The Perth Implant Surgical and Sedation Dentistry centre offers all aspects of dental implant treatment, from surgery through to completion, in-house.

Practice principal Dr Misagh Habibi leads an experienced team of oral health professionals dedicated to patient care and providing appropriate treatments to restore and enhance dental health.

From the replacement of single teeth to full mouth reconstructions using dental implants, you are in experienced hands from start to finish.
Dr Habibi restricts his practice to implantology and oral (dento-alveolar and periodontal plastic) surgery. He is an educator and researcher in this field. He is highly trained and experienced in dental implantology and a Board endorsed IV sedation provider.
Dr Habibi’s services include advanced dental implants and full mouth rehabilitations using 3-D computer planning, gum and bone augmentation, grafting and regeneration, and sinus elevation procedures to facilitate more complex treatments.
All dental surgeons at Perth Implant Surgical and Sedation Dentistry hold (non-specialist) registration as general dentists with professional experience, continuing education courses, additional training and/or certification for the services they offer. Our dentists also have postgraduate qualifications in the areas of oral dentoalveolar surgery, IV sedation and oral implantology.

Alternative to Dentures

Perth Implant Surgical and Sedation Dentistry centre assists patients in learning about dental implants as a method for replacing and securing teeth, and as an alternative to dentures.

Dental Implants can provide:

  • A natural looking smile
  • Strong, fixed and secure teeth
  • A permanent solution for missing teeth
  • Improved speech
  • Restoration of the normal shape of the mouth and face

Patients who experience floppy and loose dentures may also benefit from dental implants. Denture stabilisation with dental implants is a relatively simple procedure and can restore efficient function.

Treatment Process

Our Perth dental implant and sleep dentistry centre provides IV sedation or sleep dentistry for the comfort of patients during oral dento-alveolar surgery. Procedures such as single teeth replacement can also be performed under local anaesthetic only, depending on patient preference.

Steps to a New Smile
  • Assessment, diagnosis and planning – The first step is to meet with Dr Habibi for an assessment of your situation, history, requirements and preferences. Treatment recommendations and information about costs and options are provided at this stage. Radiology referrals for x–rays, cone beam imaging or CT scans may be organised, if required. Patients should be aware that all surgical procedures carry risk. Before starting any recommended dental treatment, patients may opt to seek a second opinion. Results can vary and the effect of alternative treatment options (including no treatment) should be considered.
  • Surgery – Once you are comfortable to move ahead with a recommended procedure, the initial stage of inserting dental implants is undertaken. IV sedation or sleep dentistry techniques ensure this stage is comfortable, minimise any pain . This stage will take around 1–2 hours depending on the number of implants and whether associated bone grafting or modification is required. Surgery can often be done in one stage, but some cases may require a two stage surgery where the implants are initially left submerged under the gum and exposed in a short procedure at a future date.
  • Integration – Commonly, dental implants will be left for a period of three to five months for a process called ‘osseointegration’, essential for creating a secure base for your new teeth. Temporary solutions will replace your missing teeth during this time.
  • Restoration – After the integration period, Dr Habibi will then finalise your restoration (implant based crown, bridge or prosthesis) for a fixed, permanent result.
  • After care – You then care for your dental implants like natural teeth with regular brushing, flossing and dental hygiene maintenance for a long-lasting healthy smile.
The All-on-4 Teeth Replacement Solution (Teeth in 3 Days, Perth WA)
All-on-4 Teeth Replacement Solution

The “All-on-4” technique pioneered by Dr Paulo Malo of Portugal is a cost effective and immediate solution for people who want to replace loose, annoying and unnatural dentures with a fixed set of teeth, or for those with advanced dental disease who want to return to full function while avoiding denture wear.

Dr Habibi is an experienced and highly skilled dental implant practitioner who provides All-on-4 teeth replacement in Perth. The All-on-4 dental implant solution also allows bone grafting and sinus elevation procedures and lengthy treatment schedules to be avoided in most cases, unlike conventional full mouth or full jaw reconstructions.

New Smile - Before and After

Less surgery, fewer dental implants and more immediate results means a more cost–effective solution when compared to conventional full mouth implant reconstructions.

The procedure takes place over three days:

Consultation

At your initial consultation, Dr Habibi will assess your situation and advise if the All-on-4 solution (or any other solution) is suited to your needs. Following an X-ray, photographs and examination, the details of what would be required and what is expected to be achieved are discussed with you

Planning
3-D scan of Jaw

A 3-D scan of your jaw is carried out and impressions are taken of your current teeth or gums. Your surgery is planned in precise detail.

Treatment

Working Day One: Implant Surgery

Implant Surgery

The jaw bone is prepared and shaped to act as the ideal foundation for the dental implants. Usually just four dental implants are placed at special positions and angles to act as a foundation for an entire new set of teeth.

The wounds are closed with dissolving stitches and impressions are taken. This procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic, but most patients choose to snooze comfortably through the procedure using our deep sleep IV sedation technique.

The All-on-4 system allows most patients to avoid bone and tissue grafts, however a sinus elevation procedure or additional implant may be carried out if required during the same surgery. (Appointment duration 2-4 hrs)

Working Day Two: Try-in of Teeth

Your new teeth, which were designed in the planning stage, are set in wax and tried in the mouth, attached to the dental implants. You can see how the smile looks and test your speech and bite. Dr Habibi will listen to your feedback, take some photographs and make minor adjustments at this stage to get your new teeth as perfect as possible.(Appointment duration one hr)

Working Day Three or Four: Your New Smile

Your new set of teeth are inserted and attached to the dental implants. These teeth are designed to immediately restore function and aesthetics by correcting any problems that previously existed.(Appointment duration one hr)

While for many patients this new set of teeth can last forever, some patients, including those with particularly strong bites, will need a new and more permanent set to be attached to the dental implants one to five years after the first set. This can be done easily with no further surgery required. Dr Habibi will already have impressions from your original surgery which can be used to make new teeth.
